Ketchikan
Ketchikan, the “Salmon Capital of the World,” is the first stop on your unforgettable Alaskan adventure with the Celebrity Edge itinerary. As your ship glides into this picturesque coastal town, you’ll be greeted by the sight of towering totem poles and the charming wooden boardwalks that wind their way through the historic district.
Here we spent the morning walking around the town and doing some shopping. We hadn’t even been docked for 5 minutes before we spotted multiple bald eagles. In the afternoon we hopped on a bus to Tatoosh Islands for the Wilderness Kayak Adventure (Tour is offered through Celebrity). We unfortunately didn’t spot any whales, but the scenery was beautiful and we found plenty of starfish and bald eagles everywhere!

Dawes Glacier
Next was one of the highlights of the journey, a visit to Dawes Glacier, a massive, awe-inspiring natural wonder that is sure to leave a lasting impression. Be sure to rise early to see the sights along the fjord with huge ice blocks floating by, some adorned with mom and baby seals. You’ll spot many waterfalls along the way. Keep your eyes peeled for the majestic sight of a bald eagle soaring overhead, or the graceful movements of a pod of orcas gliding through the icy waters. The Dawes Glacier is a true haven for the Alaskan wildlife, and during our trek towards the glacier, the onboard naturalist would share insights and points of interest along the way – making it educational as well as awe inspiring.
As you approach the glacier, you’ll be mesmerized by the sheer scale and power , its towering walls of ice reflecting the ever-changing hues of the sky. The Celebrity Edge got within 2 miles of the glacier, and did a full turn so no matter where you were on the ship you could get a good view. The glacier itself is 200 feet tall and a half a mile wide. Because of its massiveness it seemed closer to us than it really was.
They did offer an excursion that picked up passengers from the ship onto smaller boats so they could navigate even closer.
Juneau
As the Celebrity Edge cruise ship sails into the harbor of Juneau, the capital city of Alaska, you’ll be greeted by a stunning panorama of snow-capped mountains, lush evergreen forests, and the sparkling waters of the Inside Passage. Whale watch in Juneau
Here we booked a tour to take us whale watching and we were lucky enough to watch the “show” of a baby whale jumping and splashing while mom kept diving for food.

Our next stop was the picturesque town of Skagway, a gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush era. Wander through the historic streets, lined with well-preserved buildings that transport you back in time, and immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of this iconic frontier town. What you absolutely should not miss is the sail away from Skagway – we fortunately had a beautiful day – the sights of the snow capped mountains as we sailed through the fjord were breathtaking.

Also on sea days be sure to keep an eye out for those whales. We actually spotted a pod right next to the ship! It was pretty exciting.
