For garden lovers, in addition to Prescott park you can visit the Fuller Gardens, a botanical garden in North Hampton.  It was once part of  the summer estate of Avlan Fuller and is home to over 2000 rose bushes that bloom from June through October.  In May you can see tulips and other spring bulbs and flowering shrubs.   It also houses a tropical conservatory and a Japanese Garden.

Housed inside a 19th century renovated oyster house in Portsmouth, the Franklin Oyster House is worthy of a visit.  They serve up local oysters raw, stuffed or grilled.  And the Franklin fries are a must try.  They don’t open until 4:00 and fill up quickly so get there early or make reservations!

For a unique experience, take a boat tour of the Isles of Shoals, a group of small islands located off the coast. And of course, no visit to the Seacoast would be complete without a stop at Hampton Beach or Wallace Sands, where you can soak up the sun, swim in the Atlantic Ocean, and indulge in some delicious seafood.

The Monadnock Region of New Hampshire is a nature lover’s paradise, offering a variety of outdoor activities for all skill levels. Located in Mason New Hampshire, this 18th century cottage was the inspiration for the grandmother’s house in the famous fable.  Today it serves as a luncheon spot and gift shop.  Be sure to reserve early for one of their two daily seatings, and leave enough time to stroll their beautiful gardens.  Their menu changes monthly and is designed to use local fresh fare of the season.

Lastly don’t forget to explore the charming towns of Peterborough and Keene, known for their quaint downtowns and vibrant arts scenes. Peterborough is also home to the Peterborough Players which is a professional theater group offering a summer season of plays in an 18th century barn.

Hidden gems in the Merrimack Valley

The Merrimack Valley region of New Hampshire is often overlooked, but it is home to some hidden gems that are well worth a visit.
